Vice President of the New Democratic Party Godwin Friday

KINGSTOWN, St.Vincent (CARIBUPDATE/NOV 16, 2016)- Godwin Friday, the current MP for the Northern Grenadines and a Vice President of the opposition New Democratic Party is to become that country’s new opposition leader taking over from the retiring Arnhim Eustace.

KINGSTOWN, St Vincent (CARIBUPDATE/NOV 8, 2016) — Health authorities Tuesday said there has been an increase, recently, in the number of cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in St Vincent and the Grenadines, but did not disclose any figures.

KINGSTOWN, ST VINCENT (CARIBUPDATE/Oct 6, 2016) – Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines Dr Ralph Gonsalves says he will not be commenting on an accusation of sexual assault, saying he won’t subject himself to “sideshows”

Nearly two weeks ago a former St Vincent and the Grenadines netballer accused the Prime Minister of sexually assaulting her when she was a 15 year old, entering his office for a donation.

The woman made the accusation during a New York town hall meeting attended by Gonsalves and his wife.

Other than initial comments of dismissal at the meeting, Gonsalves has not spoken publicly again about the accusation

At his first press conference since at home, he was quizzed about the issue.

“You know I will tell you something Ashford, I don’t intend to comment on matters which constitute essentially sideshows. The woman at the town hall said something. I responded immediately, and I am finished with that,” he said in response to a question by journalist Ashford Wood.

“In the case of the 2008 allegation of which you spoke, you know all the processes that went through with that. You must talk about the processes too. That there is a constitutional authority the DDP which dealt with that. There is the high court, which dealt with that. There is the court of appeal which dealt with it. None of you say those things,” Gonsalves commented, in referring to an earlier sexual misconduct allegation against him made by a female police officer who was part of his security team.

“The point is that I am making you not going to get me into these kind of commentaries. So you can pose your question and make all the comments you want on them and I have said what I have to say, and that’s that,” Gonsalves said

“But Prime Minister you have been labelled as a sex predator and this is the third public allegation against you,” Wood chimed in

“The point about it is this Ashford, if you want to get a soundbite for the radio, or you want to get something for your newspaper I just answered you. What I will allow you to do now, when you finish with that and you finish with your monolog, I would just move on. So you can go ahead make all the allegations, who say what and I would say nothing,” Gonsalves said

“I am not making any allegations. I merely am just questioning you on allegations made against you publicly against you Prime Minister. You are the Prime Minister,” Wood pushed back

“The point of this I just answered you. I have just answered you, you know. But you may not like the answer that I have given to you,” Dr Gonsalves hit back.

Not going away, Peters continued: “Mr Prime Minister have these allegations cause any injury or damage to you or your family?”

Steups – was the response of Gonsalves, before he went on: “That’s sound like you’re defeated and you want to ask something at the last moment. I done with that you know Ashford.”

The journalist said: “I see that you have refused to answer my question.”

“I haven’t refused. I answer the question. I have answered the question, but you did not like the answer that I gave. You may have an agenda other than a dispassionate one, I don’t know,” Gonsalves retorted.
