DOMINICA’S PRIME MINISTER Roosevelt Skerrit has defended moves to amend that country’s electoral laws – a move that has been protested by opposition supporters.

Government officials say the proposed amendments are things that the opposition has clamoured for years, but now that they are being brought they have moved to oppose it.

Protesters marched on the parliament last month, when the body met for the first time to address the proposed amendments – forcing an unscheduled adjournment.

Government lawyers say the proposed amendments will codify the law in relation to bribery, and provide for ID cards among other measures.

On Wednesday Prime Minister Skerrit say the amendments will enhance his country’s electoral process.
